As the strategic lead for EDI at RIBA, I worked closely with its director of EDI to help deliver the EDI plan. As well as celebrating cultural diversity more broadly, I designed and delivered a plan to promote RIBA’s new, first black president. An advocate for workers rights and the youngest president of RIBA at the age of 36, I mitigated risks and issues created by his reluctance to adhere to advice, as well as the risks created by an organisation-wide transformation, opposed by many members and opposed by the previous director of EDI.
